About Me

I currently live in Michigan, where I was born and raised, with my wonderful husband and son. I graduated from Saginaw Valley State University in 2008 with a Bachelor Degree in Mathematics Education. During my time at Saginaw Valley, I was very involved with an organization called Alternative Breaks where I spent many Winter Breaks doing volunteer work in a variety of locations in the United States.

After graduation, I spent three months volunteering in the Dominican Republic with an organization called Outreach360. As a volunteer I taught English to students from 2nd to 6th grade. This experience opened my eyes to how lucky we are in the United States to have such a wonderful education system that provides all students with an opportunity to earn an education. Not all students in the Dominican Republic have the opportunity to receive an education and the majority of students do not make it past fifth grade. Therefore, opportunities are extremely limited for students in this part of the world. Through my experience in the Dominican Republic, I have a new appreciation for the education I was able to receive and the role that I have in educating students.

For six years I was the building substitute teacher at Owosso Middle School with many long-term substitute positions. In 2014, I was blessed to receive a full time position at Owosso High School where I currently teach math, and a credit recovery course. I enjoy coaching and running and have been the Middle School Cross Country coach for the past six years. I also coached Middle School Track for four years.

Through my experiences in the classroom I have learned so much about teaching and about my own teaching phylosophies.  I believe my experiences have made me a better teacher. I am excited to be taking what I have learned and incorporating these new ideas in my own classroom.
