CEP810: Teaching for Understanding with Computers

Spring 2010
Instructor: Dr. Carolyn McCarthy

The goal of this course focused on effectively using technology in the classroom, specifically Microsoft Office products such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. This was the first course that I took toward my masters program and it was in introduction to the many ways that technology can be used in the classroom. One of the assignments for the course was to create a personal growth plan for what we hoped to learn throughout the program and it began my transformation on my views of technology in the classroom. I also looked at uses for technology to solve problems such as student engagement in which I used clickers to increase engagement of students in learning.

CEP811: Adapting Innovative Technologies to

               Education

Summer 2010
Instructor: Carrie Albin

The emphasis of this course was on creating a stand-alone instructional resource (StAIR) using PowerPoint and designing webpages to use for educational purposes. A StAIR is a resource that students can use on their own to learn a topic or concept without instruction from the teacher. This allowed me to learn a new way of using PowerPoint for an educational purpose. Another project was to create a WebQuest, an inqury based project where students use the internet for more or all of the project to research and apply a topic. This was was my first real experience creating a webpage. Through this course, my view of the uses for common technology,  in the classroom changed immensely. I never realized that something as simple as a PowerPoint could become something so elaborate and effective for student learning.

CEP812: Applying Educational Technology to

               Problems of Practice

Spring 2011
Instructor: Nancy Ayers & Chuck Commeret

This course focused on using technology to solve a problem of practice in the classroom. I researched the use of the Mobile Interactive Whiteboard (Mobi) in the classroom and how it could help with student engagement as it allows the teacher to circulate around the class and write on the board while teaching. CEP812 also emphasized the creation of podcasts and videos using many different Web 2.0 (online) tools. I did not have a lot of experience with any of these tools prior to this course and after being introduced, have found new and creative ways to incorporate them in my classroom.

CEP800: Learning in School and Other Settings

Summer 2011
Instructor: Dr. Punya Mishra & Kristen Kereluik

The focus of this course was the psychology of learning and how technology applies to these practices. CEP800 emphasized the ways in which students learn and how this effects the way we must teach and use technology to enhance learning to increase understanding. This course reminded me that students must be the focus of all we do as educators especially in terms of the use of technology. We focused on the different learning styles and how technology can be used with each of these ways of learning.

CEP815: Technology and Leadership

Summer 2011
Instructor: Dr. Punya Mishra & Kristen Kereluik

Professional development strategies, and relationship building were the goals of this course. We discussing the ethical and social implications of technology integration applied these ideas to our practice. In this course, I (along with a group of other students) evaluated different types of technology and discussed their pros and cons as they relate to teaching. I also created a personal learning network to help me plan for future learning with the use of various technology resources that are available.

CEP822: Approaches to Educational Research

Summer 2011
Instructor: Dr. Punya Mishra & Kristen Kereluik

This course emphasized developing a research proposal based on a researchable problem in education. CEP822 focused on researching to improve teaching practices to grow professionally. I created a grant proposal with a focus on implementing technology to aid in student engagement and learning. With a group of other students, we researched the misconceptions that people have in relation to learning theories. With our findings we created a presentation to teach others about the miscoceptions that others have.

CEP820: Teaching K-12 Students Online

Spring 2013
Instructor: Dr. Leigh Graves Wolf

In this course, I used a Course Management System (CMS) to create online learning content. A CMS is an online tool used for online learning interactions to take place. Various systems and methodologies were discussed and experimented with and an online course was created and developed. This course allowed me to create an online environment outside of my classroom where students can go for resources and learning opportunities. I am currently using the website that I created to house flipped learning resources for my students.

TE846: Accommodating Differences in

             Literacy Learners

Summer 2013
Instructor: Katie Cook

Literacy in education was the main focus of this course. I conducted a case study with a student struggling with reading and writing skills and instruction was given to help increase these skills. Many ideas for integrating literacy learning into all content areas were discussed throughout the course. As a result of this course, I leaned many news ways of incorporating literacy into my math classroom that I had never thought about before.

CEP805: Learning Mathematics with Technology

Spring 2014
Instructor: Dr. Ralph Putnam & Erin Stehr

The focus of this course was mathematics content and technology that supports student learning of mathematics. An online resource library was created with online tools that can be used with mathematics curriculum to enhance student learning. I evaluated many online math tools/websites and dicussed the pros/cons and classroom uses of each with other students in the course. Through the evaluation process, I realized that not all online tools are useful in enhancing student learning and it is important to research to find tools that are beneficial.

CEP807: Capstone in Educational Technology

Spring 2015
Instructors: Dr. Matthew Koehler, Sarah Keenen, Josh Rosenberg, Spencer Greenhalgh, and Brittany Dillman

I created an online presence through the creation of an electronic portfolio in this course. The portolio hightlights all the courses and work created through my master's program and the learning that took place as a result. This course also allowed me to reflect on my learning through my master's program and to make goals for the future as a learner. Peer feedback and reflection were integral parts of this course.
